The word ‘Bandhan’ is where Bandhani comes from, meaning tying together. This art form is from Rajasthan, Gujarat and some parts of Uttar Pradesh is also known as Bandhej and is brought to life using the tying and dying technique. I particularly love the vibrant colours of these sarees and the unique patterns and alluring twirls that are created by tying rai dana ( mustard seeds ) or chana dal ( round lentils ) tightly onto the cloth before being dipped in a dye made from natural colours. Bandhani sarees are bold, fun, colourful and extremely easy to wear.
